FCA to release vehicle fix

A June 22 CNN report released that automaker Fiat Chrysler (FCA) was about to announce the intended repair for their vehicles with confusing gear selectors when actor Anton Yelchin was fatally struck by his own vehicle.

FCA reportedly advised the owners of recalled vehicles that the repair was underway and told them to make sure to shift the gear selector into “park” before exiting the vehicle. Yelchin, 27, died days before FCA planned to announce the repair. Yelchin’s vehicle was among the millions of FCA vehicles recalled due to an electric gear selector problem that resulted in drivers confusing “park” and “reverse.” Vehicles that are not properly parked may roll from their position and cause injuries during accidents. The automaker will upgrade the vehicle’s software to shift the gear to “park” mode whenever a door is open or a seat belt is unfastened.
